  • Property Tax: Disabled Veteran Homestead Exemption up to $121,812 (2025) on a primary residence for qualifying veterans; apply with your county tax office.
  • DMV: Free Georgia Veteran driver’s license (DDS DS-516B required). Disabled Veteran plate has no registration/manufacturing/annual fee; 100% SC (or IU at 100%) veterans are exempt from ad valorem/TAVT on one vehicle.
  • Education: Out-of-state tuition waivers at public institutions for eligible service members, veterans, and families; Georgia HERO Scholarship for Guard/Reservists who served in combat zones and eligible dependents.

Property Tax Relief

Georgia’s Disabled Veteran Homestead Exemption removes up to $121,812 (2025) of a qualifying veteran’s primary residence from ad valorem tax. Eligibility includes VA 100% permanent & total, compensated at 100% via Individual Unemployability, or statutory loss-of-use/vision criteria under 38 U.S.C. §2102. Apply with your county tax commissioner/assessor. Un-remarried surviving spouses or minor children may continue the exemption while they occupy the home.

DMV & License Benefits

Qualified veterans can receive a free Georgia Veteran driver’s license by presenting a DD-214 or a GDVS Certificate of Eligibility (DS-516B) at DDS. Georgia issues multiple military plates; the Disabled Veteran plate carries no registration/manufacturing/annual fee, and veterans rated 100% (or IU at 100%) are exempt from ad valorem/TAVT on one vehicle. Apply through your county tag office; disability parking requires a separate placard process.

Education Benefits

Public colleges may waive the out-of-state tuition differential for eligible active duty, recently separated servicemembers, Guard/Reservists, and certain spouses/dependents under Board policy. The Georgia HERO Scholarship provides aid to Guard/Reservists who served in combat zones and to eligible spouses/children. Check your campus veterans office for documentation and renewal steps.

Hunting & Fishing

Georgia DNR offers a free One-Time Veterans Hunting & Fishing License (full-privilege sportsman) for honorably discharged resident veterans with 90+ days of federal active duty on/after July 1, 2005 (valid one year). Discounted lifetime and disability sportsman licenses are also available.

Spouse & Dependent Benefits

Un-remarried surviving spouses/minor children may continue the Disabled Veteran Homestead Exemption while living in the home. Education support includes out-of-state tuition waivers where criteria are met and the HERO Scholarship for eligible families.
