Property Tax Relief

Florida grants a full ad valorem homestead exemption for honorably discharged veterans with a VA-rated 100% P&T service-connected disability. Veterans with a 10%+ service-connected disability can receive a $5,000 reduction in assessed value. Veterans age 65+ with a combat-related disability may receive a discount that matches their VA disability percentage. Apply with your county property appraiser by the local deadline and include your VA rating letter and homestead documentation.

DMV & License Benefits

Add a “Veteran” designation to your Florida driver license/ID with proof of honorable service (e.g., DD-214). Veterans with a 100% service-connected disability qualify for a no-fee license/ID and one free Disabled Veteran license plate. Disability parking requires a separate application/placard through your county tax collector or FLHSMV.

Education Benefits

Florida waives tuition for Purple Heart (and superior combat decoration) recipients at public institutions. The state waives out-of-state tuition/fees for resident veterans and extends an out-of-state fee waiver to spouses and dependents using GI Bill® benefits. The Scholarships for Children and Spouses of Deceased or Disabled Veterans (CSDDV) can cover tuition/fees for eligible dependents at participating schools.

Hunting & Fishing

Qualifying Florida residents with disabilities can obtain a no-cost Persons with Disabilities Resident Hunting/Fishing License (2- or 5-year) covering core fishing and hunting privileges; documentation is required. Florida also offers other military-related license options—check current FWC rules.

Spouse & Dependent Benefits

Surviving spouses may continue certain homestead property-tax benefits tied to a veteran’s service-connected death or 100% P&T status (per statute and residency). Education support includes the CSDDV scholarship and the out-of-state fee waiver for dependents using GI Bill® at Florida public institutions.
